Perry is Perry is a Chicago native, birthed to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. On the ABC sitcom Roseanne (as shown in flashback) her mother played Jackie Harris in two of Perry's early TV appearances. Perry did not decide to consider a career in acting after reaching adulthood because her parents were concerned about the adverse impact stress might be a cause of. Perry was shy in high-school and didn't act. She began acting in the year 2000 at Northwestern University to gain friends after she was transferred from Boston University. When she graduated, Perry moved into New York to search for jobs on television, landing small parts in shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent however, her homesickness led Perry back home to California where she found theater work. Perry performed with her mom in The Other Place at Broadway, back in 2013. In 2015, she was a part of her father as well as Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning film Anna Christie on the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. In 2016, Perry appeared on nine episodes on ABC's drama The Family. In 2017, Perry played a supporting role in ABC's political thriller Scandal that starred her father. The actress was also featured on her role on the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory spinoff Young Sheldon as a version younger than Mary Cooper, Sheldon Cooper's mom. The actress was chosen for the role despite having a close relationship with the character's family.
